I'M GOING TO MISS THIS TREE!

This is the view of our neighbours’ willow tree from our bedroom window - when I got up this morning and looked out, I realised that I had better enjoy the view of it today and tomorrow, because on Monday and Tuesday of next week, it will be felled.

I’m not sure whether it was actually planted by one of the previous owners of the house next door, or whether it was part of the surrounding countryside before our houses were built in the early 1970s.  There are certainly a lot of trees in this area, which is great, but a large willow like this can soon take over a garden and suck the goodness out of the surrounding soil.  The other thing to consider too, is the way trees draw water from the earth and this can, of course, cause problems to the foundations of nearby houses.

So for posterity, I thought I would take this photograph and I’m sure that there will be others once the view is different.

Mr. HCB has just come in from the garden and asked what I was doing for my blip today -  when I told him, he said “That willow would make a lot of cricket bats” - trust him!  He is now settling down to watch his team, Gloucester, play Surrey in the Royal London One Day Final.

And the wind said,
“May you be as strong as the oak,
     yet flexible as the birch.
May you stand as tall as the redwood,
     live gracefully as the willow
and may you always bear fruit
all your days on this earth.”
