Inside the art world

The ability to draw is fast disappearing from our culture therefore it was a pleasure to see this drawing (see extra photo) of Phillip Bruno, art collector and former director of the Marlborough gallery in New York done by Damian Henry his step-son.

The occasion was a cocktail party held in the home of art critic Clare Henry in Glasgow this evening.

It is always a pleasure to meet Clare  ( we worked together on the Glasgow Herald for years) and catch up with art gossip. We both agreed that the current M.Litt. show of GSA graduates in the McLlellan gallery is a disappointment.

I love a chance to catch up with Phillip too who has the most entertaining stories to tell from his long live involved in the art world starting with his meeting with Matisse.

Damian had just drawn this touching pen portrait of him (see extra photo) which captures something of the spirit of the man who has been at the epicentre of the art world in London and New York for over half a century.
