Iona McKeller-Bruce
Today Iona McKeller-Bruce came into Mackintosh Queen’s Cross to finalise details for her show (Mackintosh Reclaimed) next month as part of the Mackintosh Festival.
Iona is an artist, whose unique style is inspired by Scottish scenes and landmarks, using mixed media to capture the depth and texture of the native landscape. Based in Central Scotland, her work offers a refreshing interpretation of familiar scenes. Iona’s career as an artist started early! After winning national prizes and plaudits whilst still in school, she sold out her first public exhibition on opening night, aged 17. She went on to study at Glasgow School of Art, before moving abroad, working and travelling in America and Europe. On returning to Scotland, Iona established a successful business producing work on a larger scale, including murals, in a variety of venues, but also undertaking illustration and smaller commissioned pieces. Continuing to exhibit, she developed her unique style of intimate studies using mixed media, capturing the depth and texture only found in her native landscape. After taking time out to get married and have a daughter, Iona is again immersing herself in the creative process! Inspiration comes from Scottish vernacular and interesting built forms, offering a refreshing and often quirky interpretation of identifiable or evocative scenes.
