Garden of Surprises

It's been one of those days where there have been several things I could have blipped, including a Roman quarry, a Roman road and a modern turf maze to complement the ancient ones we have seen over the last couple of days. But the gardens at Burghley House (home of the famous Burghley Horse Trials) had to win. The Garden of Surprises is a modern garden modelled on an Elizabethan design, and is full of mirrors, water features and other strange objects. The picture is of the Oak mirror, a tree surrounded by mirrors (I tried to keep myself out of the picture but if you look carefully you'll see I wasn't entirely successful).

The extras are from the Garden of Sculptures, also at Burghley. Well worth a visit.
