Penguins became the unlikely symbol of the demonstrations against the government in Turkey a couple of years ago.

It came about when Turkish TV channels run by the government ignored demonstrations and violence on the streets and broadcast nature documentaries instead, notably, one about penguins.

People took to standing still in town squares like penguins as a form of protest.
This was an idea for a sculpture to commemorate these events!
