Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

Be afraid MacDick, be very afraid!

We are having such trouble with our neighbouring laird, MacDick of that ilk, that we have decided to lay siege to his castle and to lay waste his lands. We have spent the last few weeks building this trebuchet, a mighty siege engine with which we will hurl great rocks and deceased livestock into the castle of the vile MacDick.

Early this morning, under cover of darkness we crept up on the castle and readied ourselves for battle. We are well equipped with large rocks and have managed to procure a rotting and pestilential calf with which we intend to deliver our first, devastating blow.

(Those of you with an understanding of laying siege to a castle will have spotted the fatal flaw in our cunning plan. We seem to have placed the trebuchet back to front and are about to hurl the dead calf back into our own camp!)
