The wild and scenic river route
iPad drawing #16
not dealing with with my photos til later, but had some time to draw.. .....What a different landscape from yesterday's Palouse in Wa.!
Went from Livingston to a wonderful Nez Perce historical park and museum ...and along the Lewis and Clark trail . The Nez Perce were very helpful to them on their trail across the lolo pass and mountains...with horses and guides. This road follows the Clearwater and then the Lochsa rivers almost to Lolo pass -a very windy and beautiful road full of turnouts for views and information. The Corp of Discovery actually traveled over the ridges right here until they could meet up with the Clearwater, the Snake and the Columbia rivers. to the pacific,. It's wonderful to imagine them in this rugged country...lots to learn. I got to have a sketch break at this spot, fish creek, and learned that the salmon do still return here ( to Idaho!!) from the Pacific Ocean and were a big part of the Nez Perce culture-- I could see them fishing with their nets here! Also, surprise, harlequins migrate back here from the pacific! Of course I had my eyes peeled for wildlife..... This looked just right for a moose! Alas, I had to make him up, but I'll keep looking! Only birds and chipmunks so far....
Staying at lolo pass hot springs... Another marvel of the geology of the area.... Felt really good......there is a touring group of folks with model T fords here -they are most interesting and adventurous!
Added extras, the Lochsa River, the Model T"s at the Lolo Hot springs Lodge
