People Doing Jobs #5

We're entering the home stretch for our reunion dinner tonight.
OilMan spent all day yesterday cooking it on our kettle barbecue. Only an American male would have two different barbecues…especially one who likes to play with fire and believes that the only way he can cook anything is outside over an open fire. He may not have evolved that far from his cave man ancestry that front. Here he is literally pulling the succulent roasted pork shoulder meat apart with his fingers.

Last night was dinner number one in this week long gathering, which we had in Skip and Judy's "barn"" in Sebastopol with all the stuffed beasts looking on, including a pheasant centerpiece. Getting there was a comedy of errors, involving numerous texts crossing each other in the either, leaving Blake in the bathroom, panicking Dana when she came to pick him up because she couldn't find him, forgetting the maps to our house for tonight's festivities, coming back, not finding them, levying a second time without them, and arriving 45 minutes late.

Although we planned an end-of-summer casual barbecue to be eaten outside this evening there has been a change of plan since it is actually raining today. We have rearranged the entire living room to accommodate a second table behind the couch, and I raced up to the garden to pick the last of the zinnias for a non-stuffed centerpiece! We won't be having candles because the wind blew them off the windowsill where their glass containers shattered on the tile floor.

Guests will begin arriving in an hour and I still haven't made the smoked salmon appetizers, so I'll catch up with all of you tomorrow….
