The life & times of Jacks

Completing the Big Five

The first 5:30 am start wasn't that bad mostly because we were incredibly excited.  We wrapped up warm as even in South Africa the mornings are incredibly cold and especially driving on an open car the wind factor then adds an extra chill.

It was a pretty good drive across the morning and afternoon drives.  We saw some hornbills, impala (see extra photo) and various other antelope, warthog, leopards, Rhino, Giraffes, Squirrels, more Buffalo, Elephant, Hippos and Baboons.

In the morning there was one leopard sighting and then in the afternoon we saw another.  The second one was just laying on a branch chilling out.  Several branches higher there was a carcass that she had pulled way up high into the tree and was now just sleeping off her lunch.  These animals have such amazing strength to haul the whole kill up into the tree to ensure hyenas and other predators can't steal it.

We also stopped and opened the bush bar where I enjoyed a lovely Amarula.  Tasty!

That evening, back at the camp, the dining arrangements were in the driving/ guide groups and the food had been cooked in a Braai.  They served Impala and chicken - I went for the chicken although did have a taste of it and it was ok.

Afterwards some of the back of house staff came out and sang and danced as entertainment - the group had an amazing sound - very lovely experience.
