The Few

Today was the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and to commemorate this there was a flypast of 40 Spitfires and Hurricanes at Goodwood.  G & M kindly invited me to join them at the Imperial War Museum Duxford to watch 12 Spitfires, a Hurricane and a Blenheim Bomber arriving after the flypast for the airshow this weekend.

They arrived in 4 separate formations, the main photo is of a group of 3 Spitfires, then the extras show 3 Spitfires and a Hurricane appearing to be stacked up, and 3 Spitfires and a Blenheim Bomber.

It was a truly wonderful sight and something I'll never forget.

Battle of Britain Day is 15th September as this was the day in 1940 that the Luftwaffe launched its largest and most concentrated attack against London.

The average age of a pilot in the Battle of Britain was 20.

The RAF lost 1,023 planes and the Luftwaffe lost 1,887 planes.
