Jobs Worth
Miserable journey back to Scotland - we set off at 5.30 am (after 2 hours sleep) in the rain, came across signs saying A18 was closed but not where exactly, stayed on it for some miles before taking diversion signs for a lot more miles before another sign showed they were leading us back towards Louth, did big u turn at deserted crossroad and eventually found the M180. It rained constantly (apart from going through Glasgow) with so much surface water visibility on the motorways was appalling. In spite of driving the last hour and a half like a bat out of hell got to the ferry 2 minutes after check in time. Mr Jobsworth seemed to take some delight in telling me this before directing us to the end of a very long stand by queue. Didn't get on the 4 o'clock and was put in stand by queue for a delayed 6 o'clock - Mr Jobsworth told me that this ferry was even more full than the previous one (duhhh?) - perhaps some weird psychology the new staff are trained to deliver so that you are deliriously grateful when you do get on a ferry. Got home some time after 8pm, just a bit tired. I've been pretty positive and supportive of Calmac over the decades - just hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
