Royal Star Arcade (again)
We were in town with Barbara and David for a late lunch and a bit of shopping. I always like the Royal Star Arcade for its structure and the different elements. It's an interesting blend of old buildings and new additions. Unfortunately it is never very busy and shops come and go. Today was no exception as many shops and cafes were devoid of people.
The morning had been a bit of a non-entity. The District Nurse came to attend to Doreen but she caught us on the hop. We expected the nurse to ring to let us know when she was coming but she arrived on the doorstep while we were still in dressing gowns. She was here a good couple of hours which meant we weren't able to do anything much.
Meanwhile Barbara and David were stuck in at Doreen's house waiting for a delivery of flowers which were supposed to come in the morning but then arrived at 12.30 leaving them no time to go to Tesco's to shop for their up coming trip to France with their family.
So that's why there was a late lunch as we walked into town via Mote Park past the booming music of The Social Event being held in the park today. A deep throbbing bass that could be heard for miles resonated through your body as the techno-electronic music reverberated all around. Each to their own I suppose. Very few people have heard of or listened to our favourite band Runrig, so it comes as no surprise that performers like Tony Trago are an unknown quantity to us.
A good dinner was had by all though, pork in red wine sauce hotpot with loads of runner beans (again) followed by individual apple tarts courtesy of a Great British Bake Off receipe. Discs of puff pastry laid with our own eating apples in a fan pattern, brushed with butter and sprinkled with caster sugar, baked and then drizzled with warmed jam (in this case red currant jelly) and served with creme fraiche. Very nice accompanied by beer, wine and whisky as last night.
