Bellbird Magic
Blip mate and I took a walk in the bush at the back of Kaiteriteri Beach today. Much to our delight, we had a close encounter with a bellbird who was feeding and singing his heart out. I have never been so close to a bellbird nor been able to photograph one before. It was magical.
This well camouflaged little bird with a glorious song is found only in New Zealand. It is secretive and heard more often than it is seen.
A morning chorus of many bell birds is one of the wonders of the New Zealand avian world. When heard, it gives a little idea of what the first settlers would have enjoyed.
Not the best of photos unfortunately, as it was taken in the bush with no tripod . However, in the extras are some shots of him singing.
