Our wedding anniversary
Today I attended an Art Study Day for parents at the boys’ school. A highly knowledgeable art historian was asked to choose 25 of the greatest art works and discuss them – it was so interesting, particularly when she showed how that famous piece of art then influenced subsequent paintings. As a photographer I was amazed at how the artists captured light in their paintings. It was a very enlightening day and well worth it.
Today it is our wedding anniversary, and for the first time in a few years Gavin is actually home to celebrate it with me. (His travelling for work starts again on Monday). I met Gavin after work for a drink and then we went out for dinner at Sky Gyngell’s new restaurant called Spring in Somerset House. Gavin had booked to take me there for my birthday but weeks after the booking was made the restaurant phoned to say that due to the main part of the restaurant being subsequently booked by another large (and obviously more important) party, any other patrons who had booked were being asked to eat in their conservatory rather than in the main restaurant. We said thanks but no thanks, and expressed our displeasure at our booking being changed due to some more important party now wanting the entire restaurant. They phoned a few days later, apologised and offered us a very generous voucher to come back and dine there – which is why we decided to try it for our anniversary. It was very good food with well trained and attentive staff, although being located in such a beautiful building I was expecting more, I found the room a little too simplistic, almost as if they ran out of budget when it came to decorating the room.
This is a photo of us before dinner. I posted our wedding photo on Facebook today in celebration of our anniversary and we certainly looked very much younger in that photo!
