Olives

We headed out into a vast area of southern France called the Camargue. This is a very low lying area, wild and seemingly remote. It is famed for its wild horses, flamingoes and black bulls.
We stopped at a local market for some produce for lunch; tomatoes, baguette, goats cheese, and some saucisson. We could not resist the olive stall and a wonderful meal was had in a quiet spot.
Managed to see lots of flamingoes, elegant birds but with a jarring cry, all spooning away for food in the salty waters of the marshes. We heard horses and saw a few - all young brown ones, they turn grey/white as they get older (a bit like us it seems). No bulls!
Are staying the night in the unfortunately named village of Aigue Morte (deathly waters), which refers to the fact that sea water connects to the freshwater of the Rhone river making it impossible to drink or grow anything. It is set in the middle of marshes with more than a few mossies about although quite windy tonight so we are not affected. The village is enclosed by walls in fantastic condition dating back to 15th century, there are 10 gateways, some with working portcullis.
