Pretty Invasive

This is a flower of the Mexican Petunia, Ruellia simplex. It is a beautiful flowering plant which grows happily in the state of Florida. It's a native of Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America was most likely introduced in Florida around 1933 and is currently on the the Invasive Plant List. It spreads readily by both seeds and rhizomes and I can tell you from personal experience that it is very difficult to totally remove from your yard. This flower is on a plant in my neighbor's yard.
