A better day for sun but the ENE was blowing at 21 mph. The temp got up to 18.1C and our sheltered garden was pleasantly warm.

Almost inevitably I have missed some runner beans that have been busy developing seed. This variety has been most prolific and has a good flavour and keeps its tenderness.

Apparently the runner bean originates from Central America and is a perennial vine (but killed by frost in the UK). The starchy roots are still eaten by Central American Indians and the beans contain the toxic protein phytohaemgglutinin and 'should be cooked well before eating'

I gave a couple of Polish tourists a lift down to the Bay after they had flagged me down in the road to ask directions. They were from the town where the Black Madonna (Black Madonna of Częstochowa)
is located and were after a view of the white cliffs.
