Beneath Biscay

End of an era

Not my memories but those of several generations of Gijóneses, for whom the discotheque 'Él Jardin' had been a regular fixture in their social lives. My wife's parents used to go there when they were younger, as did my wife, as did our daughter. It is  very large establishment with two dance rooms, outside terraces, balconies and outdoor stage. I expect many romances started here. Tonight was its final night before closing down for good. The end of an era. It was packed with thousands of people of all ages, but mainly thirty somethings up to to sixty somethings having fun, seeing old faces and I'm sure, reminiscing. A constant stream of taxis arriving outside, with police controlling the traffic. But sweltering, both inside and out.
