Tradesmen's entrance?
The front of the George Hotel (Bewdley) is quite pleasing. As a hotel it has a history, and is on the main street in town (Load Street), a wide but short thoroughfare leading from the bridge across the River Severn up to St Anne's church (the tower of which can be seen here). However, this is not the front, but is actually the normal rear entrance leading via a short alley (which contains tables with ashtrays, for the smokers) and on to the swing doors into the hotel proper. I assume (and it IS an assumption) that in earlier days this was solely the entrance for draymen and other delivery vehicles.
