Gloucester Cathedral Cloisters
We ran Charlie up to Gloucester station this morning, so she could nip up to Manchester University to see her supervisor. After, we walked around Gloucester a bit and dropped into the always marvellous Cathedral. The Sun was pouring through the stained glass windows in the cloisters and cast colour all over the intricately carved stonework.
Gloucester is hosting some of the 2015 Rugby World Cup too, later this month, and you wouldn't be hard pressed to guess how much they're looking forward to it, with all the banners and suchlike.
There's a sculpture trail too, with lots of the Scrumpty fellows all over the place - one of which appears in my extra. I gather he's supposed to be an egg rather than a rugby ball, celebrating the likely myth that Humpty Dumpty was actually a Royalist cannon mounted high on the walls of a Gloucester church, which was brought down by the defending Parliamentary guns during the English Civil War and smashed.
