Gold mining:

This is a few metres from the town of Waihi, of the ATM crisis a few days ago. We have seen the pictures and hoped to look at the real thing. * It was a wow moment to see this and many photos later we carried on to look around the town. This was a mining area and believe mines etc will feature a few times in the next two weeks. We had a Flat White, very good it was too, and later a pleasant drive north along Road 25 to the coast.

John suggested another fish and chip lunch - so very unlike him - and today we had great chips with 'snapper' in batter, (I'm still grinning at her blip) another tasty fish. The bird spotting continues with the favourite of the day a 'spur winged plover'.
Sunny and warm, excellent!
*From the Internet:
The Mine has a history that spans three centuries from when gold was first discovered 1878. Martha Mine quickly became one of the most important gold mines in the world. By 1952, when the mighty Martha Mine closed, 174,160kg of gold and 1,193,180kg of silver had been extracted.
