Woundwort shieldbugs

There are currently lots of these sheldbugs around. They breed/feed mainly on Hedge Woundwort. Just one flower spike of this plant in my garden was supporting over 50 insects at different stages of development. Here you can see a couple of adults, surrounded by some final instar larvae and at least one early instar larva. It's wonderful to see any insect species in a crowd like this - most are doing so badly!
