Country Fair
After a jaunt through the Farmers' Market and a lunch at our French Bistro, we bundled up for a very cold afternoon at the Ravalli County Fair. (extra foto) It was unseasonably cold as a north-wind driven wet front moved through; so our normally shorts and flip-flop clad fair-goers looked more like winter skiers in down jackets, wooly beanies and the like.
It still doesn't stop the enthusiasm of the young farm and ranch kids as they show off their hard work with swine, sheep, cows and fowl. Most were pleased with sales prices on their butcher stock, but it was still hard for them to say good-bye to their hand-raised beasties.
Naturally, fair food was the staple of the day...the various charities and service groups man booths featuring Elephant Ears, Vikings, chuck-wagon BBQ, shish-ka-bobs, burgers, dogs, Chinese noodle bowls and other goodies. The carnies served up fried Snicker bars, cotton candy and other junk food. The rodeo went on into the evening with broncs, bulls, roping and barrel-racing. GR, M and I huddled under a blanket we brought to merely mark our seats...the show must go on! Rain marked the end of our night at the fair.
