An Artist's Life

Wandering Home

Again, apologizing for the lack of comments...other than explanations of where we've been...we're still popping all over the place as I type!

We had a delish breakfast at the hotel; wandered down the river where there are great signs telling about the levee, the boats, and the wildest street in the west...lorded lady-ed over by Madame Moustache. The great sculpture of Lewis, Clark, Sacagawea and baby Pompey looks over the river they sailed, paddled and were pulled up by man-power in a keel-boat that the one in extras is modeled from. Then back up-river we went to Helena and lunch in Reeder's Alley. Butte's huge Berkeley Pit came next...the Richest Hill on Earth...Google that...that is now a mile deep, arsenic-filled lake that is soon to reach critical overflow. As the mine's pumps were shut down, the pit began to fill. In 10 or so years, it will reach the point of no return if they can't figure out a safe way to get rid of the water. Naturally, it's one of the USA's Super-Fund Sites. We can only hope.
We went down the divide to Basin and the Earth Angel Health Mine....a radon cave where you sit for an hour to get a good dose of radon for arthritis, liver, blah, blah, blah health. I actually feel very good as I write this days later. Hmmm...
And so, back to Hamilton to recharge our batteries, wash our clothes, cut hair and get ready for the second leg of our travels!
