Happy birthday to my first-born

On September 5, 1966, I gave birth to my first child and named him Christopher Kendall Virden. I still have the little beaded bracelet they put on newborn babies' arms in those days. What a treasure. 

Happy birthday, my first-born, now a grandfather yourself. Your little sister arrives in Portland tonight, and we will speak of you with love. I hope your day in Arizona is beautiful.
