Urnerboden
Worked all day at Urnerboden, an area I actually grew up close by. It is a wonderful place with about 50 families living there during the summer and probably only a handful during winter. At about 5 miles lenght it is believed to be the largest alp in Switzerland.

We helped the heardsmen to remove bushes and small trees from the pastures to claim the grazing land back. We also had a special permission to burn the wood afterwards. It was a hard and fun day today. The weather was superb, not too hot but sunny and a bit windy, just enough to fuel the big fires. The heardsmen spoiled us with their very own home made bread, lard, cheese, Urnerpastete and coffe with "digestives".
At the end of this long day one the women sung a prayer.
See extra picture: She used a wooden milk funnel ("Folle") that intensifies her voice like a megaphone seeking protection for all living things up on the high pastures. Hearing this traditional “Betruf” prayer echo around the mountains at sunset is quite a moving experience.
