Orford Ness
Making the most of a day-off, G, Mum and I had a day trip to Orford. We left a bit later than planned, so went straight for a delicious lunch at the Pump House setting us up for a blustery walk around the Ness. I've been meaning to get the boat over for a long while, and finally got round to making the two minute journey! We were free to roam around the Ness, as long as we stuck to the footpaths to ensure we didn't step on any unexploded bombs. The whole island has a wonderfully dystopian landscape, but an abundance of wildlife flourishes. My Mum remembers when the military operations were strictly secret, but now the unexploded bombs and photographs of nuclear and atom testing are proudly displayed.
