The weather finally gave us a break today. Cheers.

I attended a debate tonight: "Is God Necessary for Morality?"
It was really good, and the turnout was bigger than I would've expected. There was some really intelligent dialogue and ideas....but at the end of the day, I've learned that people believe what they're going to believe and that's it. No amount of logic or rationality is going to change their minds.

I sometimes question if it's all just two sides of the same coin, but that can't be because there is reality and there is delusion. Tim of the Humanist Society Scotland did a great job of explaining, quite simply, that people gain their sense of morality from the basic principle of "treat others as you'd want to be treated". But the usual religious copout is that god instilled that quality in us. What a bogus response.

The Q&A at the end was pretty spicey too. I can't wait for the next debate in September on same sex marriage. I'd love to see people there defending bigotry.

Aside from all that, I'm really bummed to have Cait go back down to Liverpool. We had a really amazing weekend together, even if it did mostly consist of lazyness and lots of episodes of Law & Order: SVU.
