Make Do and Mend!

This is typical of so many old farm gates round here!

There is evidence of that old standby, orange baler twine. plus a length of nylon rope, some wire and a cow's neck chain. These were used to tie up cows in byres over the winter, but their use is a lot less common now as most folk keep their cows loose in slatted courts these days. It is a lot less labour intensive and it does mean the cows get to move about a bit, even though they are on a slatted floor with no bedding. Sorry, I feel a rant coming on, so will not pursue this further . . . !

For anyone keen to know about the mouse situation, I have caught no more since that first night, so am hoping that the electric deterrent is doing its thing!
