Colors of Autumn

You know it is the Fall season when certain items start showing up. Corn stalks, mums, pumpkins, and gourds.

I bought this gourd last week at a small farmer's market in Ashland, Wisconsin. (We were looking for murals, and the market was a bonus.)

It cost me one dollar. The lady asked..."Do you want me to tell you how to cook it?" I answered..."No, I'm not going to cook it...I'm going to dry it out."

"Whattttt?"

"Yes, I'm going to dry it out, and then paint it like a sunflower."

"You sure you can do that?"

"Yes ma'am."

Sometimes the drying process works, and sometimes it doesn't. Often it just rots, but other times dries to a real hard surface. Then, you have to clean off the "gunk" from the outside.

I hope it is a dollar well spent.
