Where have all the dahlias gone?

Am I too late or was the summer too hot and dry? We went to Munich's West Park today to see the dahlias. I've been looking forward to them all summer. But where were they? There were hardly any but the park was still full of roses - pretty as they are, I don't like photographing roses. They aren't half as photogenic as dahlias.

I would have gone in August but the days were too sunny for good flower pictures. Of course, I could have gone early in the morning, but I didn't. And I suspect there weren't any in August either.
