Out for a walk
We went for a walk this afternoon.
We have a book called the Hampshire Hangers. The Hangers are remnants of ancient woodland that cling to the steep slopes of the Chalk and Upper Greensand scarps . Hanger is derived from an old English word ‘hangra’, meaning a wooded slope.
As it has rained recently it was very muddy in some places and as we were climbing up or down it was tricky going in some places. I was very pleased that I walk with walking poles.
As you can see Murphy spent some time collecting seeds.
The walk that we did was around the village of Hawley. The church was really unusual as you can see. It was built in 1856 but it looked much older. The extra photo is of a painted freeze. It was a pictorial representation of the hangers during the seasons.
