The Eyes Have It
This is a Hoverfly, Volucella Pellucens.
Alway thought Hoverfly's Eyes have a wonderful structure.
See Extra Photo for an image of a full Hoverfly.
The adults are said to enter wasps' nests without being attacked, in order to lay their eggs, with the larvae subsequently living there.
