There and back again

Clouds after the storm

Shortly after leaving Moreton this morning we ran into some horrendous road works which took us an age to get past, but the weather was wonderful.
The front had past through during the night and the sky was full of white fluffy clouds and soon after climbing up to the moor we took our left turning on a narrow road to Challacombe.

As soon as you turn onto this road you seem to leave the world of traffic and noise behind us and we drove the short distance, to where we start our walk, between sleeping black face sheep who were soaking up the warmth from the road. We parked up and walked to the top of the Tor and the only noise were skylarks, sheep and flocks of seagulls who were all flying the same way down the valley and disappearing in the distance. After sitting on the Tor for a while, soaking up the warmth we returned to the car and decided to drive home a different way to avoid the road works. We drove on down the Challacombe valley through stone walls and green hedges, it felt as if we were alone out there. After a short while we climbed over the hill and dropped down into Widecombe where the little village was quiet and the tea rooms all shut awaiting the first visitors of the day.
We drove home via Haytor where at 10am the first tourist bus of the day was pulling into the information Center car park and we were home by 10.30am

Today is daughter No3's birthday so we took her out for a lovely lunch and went back to see the boys after they returned from their playgroup and school..

We have not long been home but time enough to get the grass cut while its dry!

It has been a great day today for all the good reasons and No1 daughter who has just returned from the USA, rang to catch up with us and it was lovely to hear her voice again. Jut going to sit in the garden to see if the woodpecker and its young come down to feed.
