Not a Scooby Doo

I managed to have a walk before the rain came.  Lots of bees doing what bees do, a veritable hive of activity, but it was this insect which took my fancy.  My "Collins Complete Guide to British Insects" has failed me completely.

I've added a bee as an extra because it's the sharpest I think I've managed all summer.
