A Phool in Nepal

U19s Final

Nepal made it to the final of the SAARC U19 competition which was being held in our back garden (well, it was almost that close).

The members of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) are: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The final was contested by Nepal and India and after 90 minutes it was 1-1. I had hoped it would go to extra time and felt sure that Nepal would win (they looked the much better side), but it was eventually decided by a penalty shoot-out (being English, I hate those). Nepal were victorious with a 5-4 score after India missed their very first penalty.

The boys did us all proud! These spectators were just a few that were trying to get a glimpse of the game. I'm sure it wasn't the price that meant they decided to 'hang' here (at 70p a ticket, I'm sure they could afford it), but more the fact that it was a sell out. When we came home from church earlier in the morning the queues had already started to build up and I'd never seen anything like it!
