Greater quaking grass
A day spent assisting Alex with the huge quantity of coursework he has to complete by Monday - proof-reading and editing mostly. And inbetween times entering my own data into a giant spread-sheet. One of the less exciting days of being an ecological consultant!
And, as usual, it rained...I sneaked out into the garden in the late afternoon, when a glimmer of sun appeared, and found these greater quaking grass Briza maxima flowers, all young and fresh and green. The origin of this plant is lost in the mists of times, but it has always thrived in our garden, self-seeding with gay abandon, and in some years has almost overwhelmed parts of it. It now seems to have found a happy medium, and is a welcome foil to the more vibrant poppies.
