Settling Down to Snooze in a Shady Spot
You can always rely on the Grand Union Canal for a blip, and this morning was no exception. At first glance this appears to be a female mallard but on closer inspection some small traces of green can be seen on his head, so I'm guessing he's a male going through his summer moult (think it's called 'eclipse') and he will emerge in splendid breeding plumage in a month or so with his familiar emerald green head.
The extra photo is an abstract of the willow tree pattern on the water, the light was lovely early this morning, so glad I chose that time of the day for my walk .
