Leopards of Wilpattu National Park

Thirty minutes into the game drive in Wilpattu national park, I was fortunate enough to see a beautiful leopard just relaxing on a broken tree trunk, giving us occasional glances. The pure sight of a majestic leopard in front of your eyes is an unmatched experience.

This is the largest national park in Sri Lanka with a leopard population of about 50. The best times to spot them are during the early morning hours or during the late evenings. Don't go searching for the leopard at Wilpattu & miss out on the rest of the magnificent beauty that the park has to offer. There're over 40 breathtaking lakes inside the park & you can also see sloth bears, spotted deer, jackals, wild elephants, wild boars & lots of bird species during your game drive. Except for the sloth bear, I was fortunate enough to see all the other animals during my 8 hour drive.

There're some historical sites inside Wilpattu as well.
