Day by Day

Mountain Forest Project

Went up at 5am and spent a perfect late summer day with 30C high above Bad Ragaz / Pfäfers with my work colleagues. Our unit worked a full day in a protection forest our company has "adopted".

The forest protects the villages, the power plant, the lake with the dam and the road hundreds of metres below. We cut old trees to make spacefor new ones, extended the foot path into the forest and built wooden structures to keep snow back and prevent avalanches.

Physically very demanding but also a great and useful team exercise. Tired, shattered, somebruises, a tad sunburned but very satisfied. The pictures shows the view from the place where we cooked soup and grilled sausages for lunch. The extra shows our group at the briefing early morning in the forest.

"The Bergwaldprojekt (Mountain Forest Project) sets a signal against the destruction of the mountain forest, contributes actively to its preservation and arranges for volunteers to be able to experience firsthand this fascinating ecosystem."
