We called on Suffolk friends on our way home today. I signed their daughter's passport application. Yikes I have known her for 29 years, since she and #3 daughter met at Middle School. She now lives in Cornwall and our friends have sold this house which has a lot of happy memories for us all, as they have bought one in Cornwall too. Unfortunately the survey shows there is a colony of 40+ bats in the roofspace. As they are protected, this could cause problems they don't feel up to taking on. Things are never straightforward.
The journey home was bad enough for us, taking 7 hours instead of 5, but poor #3 daughter had taken since getting off the ferry in Dover at 1pm until 7pm to get only as far as Cambridge. No fun with 2 small children in the car. They normally drive overnight as the wee ones sleep. We'd all forgotten about bank holiday being on Monday, so the roads were congested with the traffic barely moving. And in the north we forget how crowded the south is. A lesson learned.
Of course this was one of the warmest days we've had on our trip, and we spent it in the car.
