Wound up in Wexford

Mielies

We haven't planted up all our raised beds this year, but we are looking forward to the produce from this one.

But we have been confused by the plants.  The 3 by 3 square at the left are ordinary mielies (this Afrikaans name for sweetcorn has been adopted in this household).  They were already quite large seedlings when bought, have grown as expected, flowered and are now developing cobs.

The larger plants to the right side are are mini mielies.  The seedlings that we bought were MUCH smaller than the seedlings of the ordinary mielies, but have "grow'd", have now outstripped their mates, but are only just flowering.  We have yet to see how many cobs develop on each plant.
