St Nazaire-en-Royans

Today's the day ......................... to suspend

These foolhardy climbers were abseiling off the 35m high aqueduct at St Nazaire-en-Royans today.

I could hardly bear to take this photograph of them - never mind actually do it - but then heights have never been my thing.  It was hard enough to go up in the lift to the top of the aqueduct because it was mainly made of glass and you could see far too much for my liking.  The view from the top was stunning however, and although I wasn't brave enough to go very far, you could have walked the length of it.  You can look down through a metal grid to see the flowing water that it carries underneath.

Not far away is the little village of Pont-en-Royans built along the gorge of the Bourne River, with its brightly-coloured houses seemingly suspended in mid-air ............................
