We went on a longer trip today, island hopping along the Churchill barriers all the way down to the southern tip of South Ronaldsay. There wasn't much to see there apart from Duncansby Head on the , er, south mainland as I believe it is called. On our way back we visited St Margaret's Hope where we were foiled in our plan of getting some lunch because the charming young barmaid said that unfortunately they were only serving golfers this week. Hmm. We headed back up to Kirkwall where we couldn't visit St Magnus cathedral because there was a wedding going on so sat in a nearby cafe and waited 45 minutes for them to serve us with bowls of soup. On our way back to Stromness we went for a walk in an RSPB reserve but the short-eared owls were in hiding.
And of course we visited the Italian chapel on Lambholm. This is the mosaic in front of the doorway.
