Idris

A fresh but mostly sunny day.  Jacinta, Amy and I made a trip to Corris Craft Centre, a collection of craft units over the mountains from where we stay.  Today's mission was twofold, to paint pottery and to talk to a lady about soap making.  Both were successful with Jacinta surprising herself with her artistic talent in the pottery and making a new friend in soap!  I have worked with clay before but never mastered the art of glazing so this user-friendly studio with it's modern glazes was great fun.  I coloured a bowl ... and managed to restrict my myself to using just two colours, quite an achievement.  There's a glimpse of the unfired work in extra.

I was really taken with the dragons outside the woodcraft unit, they had me thinking of Ivor the Engine .... remember Idris the Dragon?  Ivor the Engine was produced by Oliver Postgate, most famous for The Clangers, although he made various other memorable children's TV offerings.  A very interesting man, his autobiography, Seeing Things, is worth a read.
