What the hell's that?!
A morning spent trying to learn the bassoon for the weekend's musicing, and also discovering an instrument I last used in Berlin is nowhere to be found ..
I headed off to Sunk Island for a drive about, but a lorry was blocking the road ahead of me .. I slowed to a halt and saw this rather unusual bird by the side of the field. I took a few shots and off it flew.
I took a photo of the back of my camera and posted it in the Facebook 'Yorkshire Birders' group - with the caption 'What the hell's this?' (what a lady I am! :\ )
Then in my impatience I also rang my bird group chap - excitedly trying to get him to hurry up and tell me what it was (his internet connection was playing up!)
Anyhoo - it turns out it's a black stork! It seems there are one or two around at the moment and the proper birders all know about them - but I've been rather distracted from birding recently so haven't even heard of such a thing.
I'm feeling very pleased with myself (about the stork - not so much about the practising)
