An empty chair
In more than one understanding of the phrase ...
My mother in law died yesterday and today is a strange day. After a morning swim and breakfast, we went to visit my father in law and he was doing alright considering the circumstances. I think in a way he is relieved that she doesn't have to suffer anymore, and now he can relax and doesn't have to watch constantly over her. Even though they were in a nursing home he did just that.
After the visit, we collected the death certificate and took it to the correct authorities. By then we were both rather drained and hungry and went and had lunch at Nauthóll bistro. Afterwards we took a walk outside and then just sat on a stone, enjoying the good weather and just relaxing for a while. We didn't quite know how to spend the day so we went to have a look at an art exhibition (see extra photos), and that's where the photo of the day is taken.
After breathing the fresh air at Grótta, we went to a café, and afterwards we visited my grandfather once again. Then Hjörtur, my husband's older brother, and his wife Guðbjörg showed up. They had been at their vacation home in Þingeyri but headed back home when they heard the news regarding their mother (8 hour drive). They were kind enough to invite us to dinner, which of course we accepted, and we had a really lovely evening at their house. We'll probably be heading home to Akureyri tomorrow.
P.S. I'm backblipping
