Staycation No 3
This morning started out with a lovely clear blue sky and no wind.
A continuation of our Staycation until the end of August brought us to Adra today. Just down the coast some 25 km towards Malaga. Adra has it's origins in the ancient Abdera, a colonial Phoenician foundation of the 18th century.(according to the write up!) We had a walk through the Town first which is much the same as most coastal towns. The picture featured is the only remaining feature of the Lead Smelting Factory. We found the Tourist Information Office and got a map, unfortunately all the other sights to see were at the other end of Town so that is awaiting our next visit.
We had some lunch and then a stroll round the Marina and Port area. In the corner of one of the Pontoons, there was piles of rubbish in containers with labels on showing what had been cleaned up out of the water. (extra pics) - even a supermarket trolley!
Also a pic of the guy 'fishing' it all out. I thought it a good idea leaving it out on display with pictures of wildlife being affected by the waste.
At the Harbour mouth there was a digger shifting sand, so I went to have a closer look. All it was doing was moving the pile from one side to the other! I am sure there is a very good reason for this. However, the boat in the last pic came in and weighed anchor right in front of it. If you can see there are pipes going from the back to the front and they set this going and water was sprayed onto the boat from the pipes. Could not quite see what it was cleaning. Any ideas?
An interesting day out.
