A little squawk, a thump on the bedroom window, a few falling white feathers, and that was the end of the Collared Dove. The Sparrowhawk killed it very quickly but the paper boy cycled past and the hawk flew off. I waited, hoping it would come back and take its large meal away, but it didn't so I disposed of the corpse. So a Dove killed for nothing and the Sparrowhawk off to kill something else for breakfast.
Better birding was a trip to Conder Green in Lancashire where I saw my first ever Lesser Yellowlegs, a Life Tick. And yes, it had very nice yellow legs.
