Just a bit too far away....

after breakfast this am I'm sitting in the kitchen with the door wide open & I can hear this beastie calling loudly. Grabbed my camera & hobbled outside. It took me some while to spot it as it was perched on top of a conifer 3 gardens up the road. I had the feeling that it might be a young 'un but don't quote me on that. Anyhow this was the best shot I could get and so today my picture is of an Urban Greater Spotted Woodpecker.

Its a cool cloudy morning with a hint of rain in the air. The chiropodist is due in a few minutes...normally I would go to her but after a month I am still not driving.
